HowTo - Create Dummy Event Log Items

I found myself wanting to create dummy entries in the Windows Event Logs to test some monitoring and automated response mechanisms.  Some quick Googling brought the "eventcreate" command to my attention.

Using a simple command like this:

eventcreate /T ERROR /SO DummyProgram /ID 999 /L APPLICATION /D "Dummy Error Log Event"

... one can create log entries in the various event logs with various sources, IDs, types, and messages.  Use "eventcreate /?" to get all the command line options.

Also you can use the same technique for batch scripts to write log entries on success / failure to the local event logs.
